Headshots vs Branding Photography

What’s the difference between “Headshots” and “Branding Photography”?

I make the distinction that a headshot is a portrait made with the client looking into the camera (aka camera aware).  It’s typically posed, but can still have a relaxed attitude.  Most clients only want between one to five of this type of image at a time.  The number one intended use for these images is a LinkedIn profile, but they are also widely used on company websites in the “About Us” or “Meet the Team” type pages.  Many clients are prompted to come to me for an updated image when they win an award, get a promotion, are speaking at a conference or having work published.

Alternately, Branding Photography is a bit more of a story telling exercise; whether the story is about just you or your business in general.  A branding photo session takes longer, and you end up with a wider range (and more) images.  There will be some “camera aware” images, but also often more candid and “action” type images often involving props or products to help tell the story.

I offer both types of sessions.  If you’re not sure what will best suit your needs, let’s chat and I’ll help you figure it out.
