More and more of my clients are looking for lifestyle or documentary style sessions. I love this style of photography because I feel it better captures the essence of the family, the personalities, the story of who they are right now. Working in the family home, even if it’s temporary like Akuffo and Melanie’s condo is, helps capture this moment in the child(ren)’s life. Kai may not remember it when he’s older, but when his parents reminisce about his birth and early months, it will be in the setting of this condo. We also took a stroll around their Yorkville neighbourhood, creating images at a few of the local landmarks. All part of his baby story. With older families, this type of session would combine home, backyard and perhaps the favourite local playground or park.
The last few baby photo sessions I’ve done have been newborn babies (i.e. less than a month old), so it was a fun change to work with two month old, baby Kai, this week. What made it an even bigger joy was that he was an absolute charmer to work with. Such a happy baby!
